*Where are you from?
Oregon, Texas, and Kansas (about a third of my life in each). I currently live in Lawrence, Kansas.
*Tell me a little about yourself?
I’ve had a variety of interests, but the one constant in my life has been dogs. Drawing wildlife, nature, and domestic animals, such as dogs, has always been a passion of mine. I’ve worked at an animal shelter and a boarding kennel, volunteered for animal shelters, dog rescue groups, a wildlife rescue group, and I’m a certified dog trainer. My main focus today is on the retail website promoting car safety for pets (started in 2006).
*What is your blog called?
I have two: http://www.PetAutoSafetyBlog.com and AmericanDogBlog.wordpress.com
*When did you start blogging? And why?
I started the pet auto safety blog in June 2008 in order to promote my website, PetAutoSafety.com. The blog was a way to provide additional information about pet travel that my retail site couldn’t. The topics discussed on the pet safety blog were very narrow so I started the American dog blog in September 2009 in order to have more fun with blogging.
*What is your blog about?
Pet Auto Safety provides helpful tips and information on various pet travel products. It covers safety tips, travel tips, as well as training tips for pets riding in the car.
American Dog Blog is mostly a lot of fun stuff about my dogs Maya and Pierson. Sometimes I offer training tips, pet health information, dog product reviews, information about dog breed characteristics, and about general pet care.
*Do you have any animals?
Absolutely! :) When I started the pet travel blog, it was just me and my Chow mix Sephi (short for Persephone). Later came my lovely Labrador, Maya. Sephi passed on in 2011. So now it is Maya and my Aussie mix Pierson.

*What do you hope to achieve with your blog in 2014?
I’d like to increase the subscribers for my pet travel blog. I have no specific goals for my American dog blog, although I am considering redesigning it and changing it from a free WordPress.
*What do you get inspiration from?
My dogs. Several years ago, my dog Huckleberry jumped out the car window to go after some cows. He was okay but caused both of us quite a shock. Sometime after Huckleberry, I had three dogs at one time and you can imagine the chaos whenever we traveled. So when I saw dog seat belts in a catalog, I bought one for each of them. That was more than 15 years ago. Sephi was my inspiration to start the retail business for dog seat belts. Maya and Pierson continue to inspire me today, especially Maya. She would be all over the place in the car if she wasn’t buckled in.
*What are some of your favorite pet blogs to read?
There are so many! I love Flea’s Dog Treat Web, Glogirly’s blog about Waffles and Katie, the three Chessies from 2BrownDawgs, your blog, Jodi’s Heart Like a Dog, Roxy the Traveling Dog, Sugar the Golden Retriever… seriously, the list goes on and on. I like the mixture of just plain and simple fun blogs and the blogs that are more informative and thoughtful.
