tuesdayThis Tuesday’s Spotlight is on Kate O’Brien and her doggies! We did have a previous interview with Kate about her animal blogs; slimdoggy & slimkitty, you can read it all here: http://confessionsofarescuemom.com/2014/06/17/tuesday-spotlight-slimdoggy-slimkitty/

*Your Name?

*Where are you from?
Camarillo, CA

Maggie – black Lab, age 10

*Interesting Facts About Your Animal(s)?
Jack is the inspiration for our Blog SlimDoggy.com

*Animal(s) Favorite Treat?
Jack = anything edible
Maggie – watermelon

*Animal(s) Favorite Trick?
Well, neither of them really do tricks.

*Where is your pet(s) favorite place to go?
Jack loves to ride in the car, he doesn’t care where – just to the corner and back is a good trip for him. Maggie loves to go to the dog parl. She doesn’t play much, but since she was a breeder mom at a puppy mill, she likes to have other dogs around her.

*Perspective on Adopting a Rescue?
We would never do it any other way now. Both Jack & Maggie were seniors when we adopted them. Seniors are always the last ones to go. Jack was in the shelter for a year and at 105lb and on Prozac for his anxiety, he was pretty much unadoptable. If we didn’t take him in, I don’t know who would have. Maggie was as fearful as they come. She didn’t eat for the first 3 days after we got her – took to her bed and was too afraid to move. Getting her to be a dog has been a long slow process and there is still work to do. We feel so grateful to have both of them in our lives, they have done so much for us and we hope we have given them a good life.

*What’s your favorite thing to do with your dog (walks, going to a park, playing games etc.)?
I walk the dogs most every morning, early mornings when it’s quiet and peaceful out. That’s my favorite time with them.jack on balance1000
*Favorite Quote?
“Perhaps one central reason for loving dogs is that they take us away from this obsession with ourselves. When our thoughts start to go in circles, and we seem unable to break away, wondering what horrible event the future holds for us, the dog opens a window into the delight of the moment.” ― Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson,

*Favorite website to get pet information?
Too many to name – depends on the type of information I am looking for.

*Do your animal(s) love to go for car rides?

*What’s your favorite animal product?
The SlimDoggy iPhone App of course!

*Why do you think volunteering at an animal rescue/shelter is important?
It’s important to give back however you can. One of our favorite things to do is take shelter or rescue dogs for walks or even a run. We’ve done that for several foster dogs being fostered by folks who just can’t burn off some of that Lab energy. A good 30 minute run a couple of times a week does wonders for the dogs demeanor and adoptability.
