Wagging Wednesday – Book Review – The Painted Pilgrim

wednesdayThis Wagging Wednesday I get to do my own product review! I was estatic to recieve an email from a company asking if I would review a pet novel  that is being released in January for them. The subject line of the email said “Would you adopt a pink dog?” I responded to the email, of course I would, pink is my favorite color! A week and a bit later I recieved an advanced copy of “The Painted Pilgrim” By Dale Ryan.

Read our exclusive interview with the author of The Painted Pilgrim; Dale Ryan: http://confessionsofarescuemom.com/2014/11/05/wagging-wednesday-author-interview-dale-ryan/

Book Description from Amazon.com:
The Painted Pilgrim is an adventure story about a large, shocking pink dog who shows up at the door of “Give Me Shelter” dog shelter. His name is Pellegrino. Zuki is the director of “Give Me Shelter” and chooses the name because Pellegrino means “a traveler from afar”. The story revolves around Pellegrino and how he makes friends with the other dogs at the shelter. Zuki is very protective of him because of his unusual fur. Therfore, a cast of characters try to adopt Pellegrino and some of them have bad intentions. Fortunately, with Zuki’s vigilance their plans are foiled. While he is at the shelter the other dogs befriend him and protect him from a kidnapping plot. In the end, Pellegrino finds the perfect home and his two sidekicks surprisingly end up living nearby.

The Painted Pilgrim is being released January 15, 2015 and you can preorder it here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Painted-Pilgrim-Dale-Ryan-ebook/dp/B00OQE0TH0
Kindle Price: $2.65
Paperback Edition: $12.34

This book is a children’s novel and all of the meanings in the book are things I feel so strongly about. Just like the shelter director in the book, Zuki, when you are commited to a shelter or animal advocacy, it becomes your whole life. All of those animals are your babies and you want to make sure they get proper homes with good people. Just like our shelter where I got my dog at they have a very precise adoption process to  make sure the animal you choose is the right fit for your lifestyle and that the animal will mesh well as a part of your family.

The storyline of the book is well thought of and amazing! It shows the many emotions of shelter staff (in this case, the director Zuki) durring the trials, tribulations and happiness one endures while trying to find each animal at the shelter a more then perfect home. I found myself tearing up a few times while reading the 64 paged novel.

I wont spoil the book for you but my most favorite part of the book is when someone gives the reason on why they want to adopt Pellegrino. The ending of the book will leave you with a smile on your face.

I love that in her interview with me she says: “I hope my book inspires more dog adoptions, especially of dogs that aren’t perfect or pure breeds, such as mutts, less favored breeds or those with a handicap or perceived shortcoming” This hits home for me as when we adopted Rolo, he had been diagnosed with idiopathic canine epilepsy.
Confessions of a Rescue Mom 100% reccomends this book to everyone. Even thought the book is a pre-teen targeted book it also happens to be for all animal lovers, shelter ambassadors and people who love a story with a happy ending.
