JPL Dog Days of May {Wrap Up}

What a great weekend Rolo & I had in Jasper at the Dog Days of May hosted by the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. We have posted a whole album on Facebook ( of all the photos we have taken over the Friday, Saturday & Sunday but none of them can really sum up our experience!

IMG_2451Let’s get to the details of our stay as I am sure you all are dying to know what it was like! We arrived at the hotel at 4:00pm for check-in. After we received our room keys there was a Dog days of May booth set up at the end of the lobby. We got our daily schedule, an adorable blue bandana, homemade dog treats and Rolo got a gift bag filled with dog food, treats, a bowl, poop bags and a ball {Hello Spoiled!}

We made our way to our room to get settled in. We stayed there for about 30 minutes and went for a little walk as the Doggy Welcome Reception was to begin at 5:00pm. Most of the event took place right out front of the lobby entrance, Just near the tennis courts. They had tents set up outside with picnic tables inside for seating and the area was all fenced in so the dogs had a lot of off leash time.

Friday May 29th Schedule:
1:00pm-8:00pm Puppy Pop Up Shop
4:00-7:00pm Arrival/Registration
5:00pm-9:00pm Doggy Welcome Reception
6:00pm-8:00pm Doggy Family Photos
7:00pm-9:00pm Live Entertainment
During the welcome reception everyone got to mingle, eat some snacks & let the dogs play together. They also had some live entertainment and the singer’s voice was angelic! There was also a photographer there that was running a little photo-booth where you could come get some photos done with your pet(s). They photos got printed out and put into a keepsake photo frame for us to take home. I put mine in my kitchen on the counter.
IMG_2453After the event ended at 9:00pm we went to visit my dad who was over in Jasper camping for the weekend at Whistlers. We roasted some marshmallows and hung out by the fire. After Rolo & I headed back to our hotel and went for a little night walk as it had cooled off and was beautiful outside at 10:30pm. We took some beautiful photos outside that night of the scenery. You can see them below.

4:00pm-5:00pm “Woof Woof” Nature Walk
6:00pm-9:00pm BBQ Dinner
7:00pm-9:00pm Live Entertainment
Saturday was a full day of events! I went to breakfast in the morning in the ballroom and had the most delicious food. They took grapefruit and put sugar on it and caramelized it with I’m guessing a blowtorch. Wow it was so good I had two! I also had a breakfast sandwich and some muffins! Around 11:00am we headed back to the tented area for the dog treat demo. Rolo told me I had to attend this class as I am not very great at baking. I think its something to do with patience. Rolo loved the cookies that were made and I as well as they were definitely health for him! We also got a recipe card to take with us so we can make them at home.
After we ate lunch, which was another amazing meal, It was time for a bunch of events to start; Ask the Vet, Doggie Spa, how to be your dogs best friend & Pawgility course. Rolo decided that he wanted to get his hair dyed. As he has pretty dark fur she did the only white patch on him, which was on his chest. Rolo became BLUE! It was really neat listening to people ask the local Jasper vet questions and the agility demo was sweet! Rolo didn’t do the agility as well in order to get him to go through the tunnel or over the ramp, I would have to do it first. At the BBQ they had the cutest center pieces on the table (Photo on my album on Facebook) and there was a lot another live singer who was playing the guitar during the dinner. The night ended a little early as it was getting windy and about to rain as no one wanted to get soaked!

Sunday May 31st Schedule:
7:30am-10:00am Guided Dog Walk
Farewell Breakfast
IMG_2455Sunday I left rolo at the doggy daycare than went for breakfast. I had the most tasty potatoes, they weren’t the kind you buy pre-made in a baggie, along with another grapefruit and some coffee. I had packed up our room and after saying my goodbyes we made our way on the long trek home. We had a lot of fun meeting new people and hanging out with a whole variety of different breeds of dogs. We even knew a few of the people and their dogs from before. We have never been to anything like this before and I hope that there is another one next year! This event was so well put together, a lot of fun and let me say Rolo has never been so tired in his life. There was a few times over the weekend where I caught him sitting up with his tongue hanging out sleeping(there is proof in our facebook album)

    Your photos on Facebook are beautiful! I’ve always loved the Fairmont hotels but don’t get the opportunity to stay at them too often. They are great properties. Sounds like you and Rolo had a great time! :-)

    That sounds like a blast. Chester and Gretel are jealous. We saw a Fairmount Hotel when we stayed at Lake Louse but it was WAY out of our price range. We stayed in the “budget” place a little further away and just ate an expensive dinner there…to celebrate our engagement. My hubby popped the question when we were snowshoeing that day.

      Aw thats adorable! Did you know that when jim carey and jenny mccarthy were dating he proposed to her while on a winter sleigh ride over in lake louise. Must be a lucky place :)

    This looks like it was an amazing event! They kept you guys plenty busy with all kinds of fun activities. I’m glad there were plenty of treats too :)
