I have loved Rolo for 1460 days! On this day four years ago our adoption application that we put in at the Fort McMurray SPCA (www.fortmcmurrayspca.com) was approved and Rolo became ours! This was the day that would literately change his life forever! I look back, over these last few amazing years with tears in my eyes, I really cannot picture my life without him! We both have changed so much and he has given me a new life like we have given him a new one!
I still remember the first day my husband (boyfriend at the time) brought him home from the shelter, he actually ran away from us. As soon as we got him home he stayed in the basement and looked so miserable but boy did that end up changing! He was unlike any dog I had ever been around, he refused to show affection, no kisses, no snuggles, no barking. He just really wanted to be left alone and went into depression for a little bit(look how miserable he was below). He still will not give kisses but he shows how much he loves me with the “Rolo Squeeks” and I get alot of those!!
After learning he was treat motivated we started training and molding him into a better version of himself. He really did need a lot of work and I knew this was going to take time. I made it my mission to help him. He was scared of me, terrified of men, growled at kids and needed a little house training. With time Rolo has molded into the dog he is today! Most photos that he is now he will actually put a smile on in them! Have you witnessed the way Rolo and I act together, you can tell that it is nothing but unconditional, pure love! I cannot be a more prouder dog mom and I think we make a great team! This boy went from stray to superstar; appearing in so many webpages, blogs, magazines, a book, a calendar, became a certified pet therapy dog (now retired), appeared on TV and so many other places to mention. I love sharing his story with people as I hear and witness online to many times to count that people have returned their adopted pets because they didn’t fit in within a week. We like to remind them that pets cannot settle down in a week, Rolo took well over 3 months and now he is the most perfect dog!
Tonight at the Fort McMurray SPCA, we will be celebrating Rolo’s adoption with a big birthday pawty & donation drive. Stop by the Fort McMurray SPCA (155 MacAlpine Crescent in Fort McMurray, AB) between 6:00pm-8:30pm to join in on the fun. I have treats for both humans and pups so bring them by for some playtime! As it is a donation drive, if you bring a donation for the rescue you will receive a super sweet, goodie filled swag bag! and these swag bags are not small!
