Shelter Spotlight – AARCS

Good Morning Pet Lovers! As  you may have seen from our updates on social media, we are heading to the Edmonton Pet Expo January 28-29th! We were unable to go last year due to horrible road conditions but this year we are ready to hit the road and take in all the fabulous booths. It’s an event worth attending. One thing we love doing is stopping by the rescue booths. We are so involved with Rolo’s former shelter that we love being able to meet others too! I got in contact with some rescues attending this year and will be doing some social media promoting for them! The first rescue we are going to spotlight is Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society also known as AARCS. We caught up with executive director Deanna Thompson for a little Q&A session. Cant wait to checkout their booth!

*Where is the organization located?
We have our headquarters in Calgary with a satellite branch in Edmonton and volunteers and foster homes across the province of Alberta (photo credit:

*As we all know the Edmonton Pet Expo is coming up January 28 & 28th, what types of things can we find at your booth?
We will have adoptable dogs at our booth, along with merchandise for sale and information on how you can get involved in animal rescue with AARCS.

*What types of animals do you have at your Animal Rescue/Shelter?
We rescue dogs and cats of all ages, sizes and breeds.

*If someone wanted to become a volunteer, how could they?
Becoming a volunteer is easy! We have a form online where you can apply and select the different ways you may be interested in volunteering. Depending on your location and what activities you would like to participate in we have additional orientations and training we provide.

*What types of items do you accept for donations?
We accept all types of donations and are especially in need of puppy food, pee pads, toys, beds, gas cards and monetary donations.

*Do you sell any shelter swag? If so what?
Yes! We have lots of swag including, t-shirts, calendars, hoodies, mugs, toques, and more!

*What is the adoption process like?
AARCS adoption process is pretty simple and we try to make it fun and easy for adopters. Because our animals are in foster care, potential adopters must first apply online and be screened by one of our adoption coordinators. From there we set up a meet and greet with the dog, adopters and the foster family. If all goes well, we require adopters to sleep on it for a night and fill out all the appropriate paperwork and pay their adoption fees and they can take home their new addition the following day. AARCS is super excited to announce that we are moving our headquarters in Calgary to a new location and will be the first domestic pet rescue organization to have our very own animal hospital specifically designed to treat the homeless and abandoned animals of Alberta.
